Fiona Annis

Photographer

Al centro della pratica di questa artista canadese c’è un’esplorazione della natura enigmatica e misteriosa della fotografia. La sua pratica non è limitata a una singola tecnologia, metodo, processo o soggetto, ma indaga gli elementi fondamentali della fotografia, quali luce, carta, chimica e tempo. Con un impegno continuo nei confronti di materiali e processi fotografici arcaici, Fiona integra questa conoscenza storica con un approccio profondamente contemporaneo. Il suo è un percorso artistico che evoca sia l’eredità del passato che la promessa di un futuro. Fiona ha esposto in istituzioni artistiche mondiali, tra cui AC Institute (New York), Canadian Centre for Architecture (Montréal), Goldsmith’s (Londra), Low Salt Gallery (Glasgow), Museo Novecento (Napoli), Gallery44 (Toronto), e The Art Gallery of Alberta (Edmonton). Le sue opere sono presenti nella collezione permanente del Museo della Civiltà di Québec, nel Museo Nazionale di Belle Arti del Québec, nella collezione di arte pubblica di Ottawa e della Penumbra Foundation di New York. Nel 2018-19, Annis ha beneficiato del premio della Fondazione Brucebo per la sua residenza presso il Museo degli Strumenti Astronomici di Napoli, Italia. Fiona è una delle due co-fondatrice di The Society of Affective Archives (La società degli archivi affettivi), con progetti che includono la creazione di mostre e opere d’arte pubbliche permanenti. Fiona Annis ha conseguito un master presso la Glasgow School of Art e un dottorato interdisciplinare in Belle Arti presso l’Università Concordia a Montréal.
